Our History

A Powerful Presence Through the Years

Through all its years, the company has enjoyed being a long-standing presence and local business landmark in Littlestown, as well as in the surrounding communities.

In May of 1979, Laverne Smith started Monacacy Valley Eletric, Inc. as a sole proprietorship. In March of 1981, the small business was made incorporated. The company was then purchased in July of 1984 by Laverne’s sons, Brian and Larry Smith. Finally, in December of 1989, Jay Wantz, a former employee, purchased one third of the company stock from Brian and Larry, joining them in their partnership. Upholding their standard of excellence, all three partners are active in the day-to-day operations of Monacacy and not only serve on the Board of Directors but also as company officers.

In 1998, the business was functionally reorganized and continued under the direction of Jay Wantz as the chief administrator, Brian Smith as the chief estimator, and Larry Smith overseeing field operations.

By working diligently and together on every project, the three leaders have built long-standing and satisfactory relationships with not only suppliers, but also banks, employees, clients, and the community that surrounds their business.
